Quit for Them – Smoking Cessation Campaign BCUHB

06/04/2017

Quit for Them – Smoking Cessation Campaign BCUHB   Community pharmacies in North Wales should be aware of the “Quit for Them” campaign that has been running in North Wales since early 2016.

The ‘Quit for Them’ campaign is aimed at signposting smokers to cessation services which include pharmacy and  Stop Smoking Wales as well as supporting people who want to try and quit independently. The campaign uses social media and online advertising supported by some outdoor media and print.

Smokers who access the campaign can obtain a Quit Kit which also includes a pharmacy leaflet (as attached) which encourages them to access the pharmacy Level 3 service. Copies of the bilingual leaflets were also sent to all community pharmacies last year.

Public Health Wales are receiving feedback from patients who have tried to access the pharmacy service who are being told that pharmacy teams are stating:
  • That they don’t accept the vouchers
  • No longer offer the smoking cessation service
  • Not aware of the Quit for them campaign

Community Pharmacy Wales have been asked by Public Health Wales to ensure that pharmacy teams are aware of the campaign.

Contractors are asked to check that if they are commissioned to offer the Level 3 service but are no longer offering it that they email awpd@wales.nhs.uk and also contact the LHB to inform them, so that smokers will not be referred to their pharmacy.

Contractors not offering the Level 3 service should refer patients to NHS Wales Direct or www.quit.wales to find the nearest commissioned pharmacy.

(The level 3 service is available to be commissioned from all pharmacies within BCUHB as long as they have meet the accreditation requirements – consultation room plus accredited pharmacist/ technician)
