Primary Care Strategy

Our Plan for a Primary Care Service for Wales up to 2018

This strategy is the key strategy for the development of primary care services in Wales and sets out the work the Welsh Government and NHS Wales will do by March 2018.
The seven health boards are responsible for planning and meeting the health needs of the population of Wales, within the policy context set by the Welsh Government.
The objective is to develop a more “social” model of health, which promotes physical, mental, and social wellbeing, rather than just the absence of ill health and draws in all relevant
organisations, services and people to ensure the root causes of poor health are addressed.

There are five priority areas for action:
• Planning care locally.
• Improving access and quality.
• Equitable access.
• A skilled local workforce.
• Strong leadership.
